Where it comes from

Nevado Gona is grown organically high in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia's isolated coastal mountain range — the tallest of its kind on Earth, rising from Caribbean shoreline to snow-capped peaks in a matter of miles. The coffee itself comes from Finca Las Flores, part of a group of five farms in the Sierra Nevada growing across 95 hectares roughly 1,892 meters above sea level. Only ripe cherries are hand-harvested in batches, then floated at the mill, rested overnight in a hopper, depulped, and fermented before a slow pre-drying and final drying phase. The farms grow Castillo, Colombia, and Typica varietals, fully washed.

Beyond the cup, the coffee carries a story of resilience: nearby in the San José de Oriente region, former combatants of the Colombian armed conflict have gone through social reintegration programs, and participating farmers have used the resulting premium pricing and market access to improve their livelihoods. The farmers behind this lot — with 14 years of experience — are working to double their crop by the 2025–2026 harvest, while expanding pulping and composting infrastructure to keep the operation sustainable.

Where the name comes from

The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta isn't just a mountain range — to the Kogi, Arhuaco, Wiwa, and Kankuamo peoples who have called it home for centuries, it's the sacred "Heart of the World." The Kogi call the range's tallest, most revered peak Gonawindua — a name built from four words in their language describing the mountain as the very origin point of creation.

We shortened that to Gona, paired with Nevado — Spanish for a permanently snow-capped peak, the same word embedded in "Sierra Nevada" itself. It's a name that ties directly back to the land this coffee is grown on: a mountain that rises straight from the sea to permanent ice, revered as sacred ground long before it had a name on any map.
